Choosing fittings
- Rod or track?
- Rods are visible and decorative. Tracks are discreet, can bend around bay windows and are needed for ripple-fold and motorised curtains.
- Ceiling or wall fixing
- Fixing to the ceiling lets curtains fall from the very top, which makes a room feel taller. It needs a solid ceiling or a support planned into a false ceiling.
- How wide?
- Run the rod or track past the window frame on each side, so open curtains stack clear of the glass.
- Heavy curtains
- Lined and layered curtains need sturdier brackets, spaced more closely.
